Our next meeting will be held on February 23-24 in Davis, California and the local committee of Jeff Loux, Janet Ruggiero, Al Herson, and Cathy Creswell to put together a great lineup of two wars, speakers, and relaxation/refreshments. The highlight of our today's will be the chance to sample a wonderful cuisine and hospitality of Janet and Steve at their home in Woodland. Those who would not experience their kitchen in full swing are in for a real treat on Thursday night at 6 PM.

We have arranged for a bank of 15 hotel rooms for Thursday night, February 23 at the Hyatt Place in Davis for $129 a night, but you must reserve your stay on or before next Friday, February 3, 2012 to keep that rate. The hotel is located at 173 Old Davis Road Extension, Davis, CA 95616. The hotel itself is a LEED certified building located right on the campus with easy access to conference rooms, the Alumni Center, the MondaviCenter for the Performing Arts.These rooms are reserved on a first-come first-served basis, so please call the Hyatt Place at (530) 756 -9500 to reserve your room as soon as possible!

We have put together a rough agenda outlining our activities for the two day period as outlined below and a more refined agenda will be sent out shortly. As for the tours and talks, their focus will be on UC Davis, Sustainable Planning and Design, and pending legislation in Sacramento. It is the only real “developer” in Davis for the past 3 to 4 years, the campus has put together an impressive array of LEED buildings including several platinum buildings and contains one of the most innovative “eco-neighborhoods” in the western United States. We will be visiting the buildings and neighborhoods site to learn about such innovations as a rainwater harvesting system used for urination and toilet flushing, 100% off the grid renewable electricity including solar and biofuels, essentially car free living, a neighborhood “hardwired” for sustainability research, retention of the 100 year floodplain as on-site wetlands and LID style recharge basins, etc.

Two tours are planned: (1) On Thursday afternoon, weather permitting, those who like to ride bikes will come along for a ride through campus and its sustainable projects and neighborhood, and then through the city to look at its latest bike innovations as well as its older bike infrastructure. We can also stop at the older sustainable neighborhoods like Village Homes for those who are not familiar with such projects. If the weather does not cooperate, we will get a couple of vans and do our best. CPR members can either bring their own by orally can rent them at the campus bike barn. For those who do not feel like a bike ride, we could do an optional van tour for those folks who want to.

(2). On Friday morning, we will do a short walking tour from the hotel and go inside the LEED buildings and learn about them as well as the impressive UCD Arboretum. We will then take vans to West Village and learn about how it works before returning to our conference room where the panel discussions and business meeting.

The first panel discussion on Friday morning will explore aspects of climate action planning related to adaptation issues from both a broad policy perspective and a nuts and bolts implementation perspective. The second panel will update all of us on the legislative and budget happenings in Sacramento and what is likely to come out of the State Capitol over the next year. In addition to a more refined agenda to that outlined below, I will shortly be sending out the tally sheet to the membership to resolve attendance at this function and its events. • 2 PM-check Into Hyatt Place Hotel, gather there for sustainability bike tour of campus and part of city
• 2-5 PM-bike tour; if rain is likely, we will have backup of a couple UC vans and do the tour from vans. Jeff will lead the tour, people can bring their own bikes or we can rent from the campus.
• 5-5:45- back to hotel
• 5:45-off to Woodland for dinner at Janet's house at 164 North Street in Woodland for Antipasti at 6 PM and dinner at 7 PM. Janet's home phone number is (530) 666-3294.
• 9 PM-ish-return to hotel and wander downtown for cocktails

Friday, February 24

• 7-8 AM-early Bird walk from the hotel through UCD Arboretum (optional-weather permitting)
• 8-8:30 AM-Continental breakfast at hotel
• 8:30-9:45 AM-short walking tour of LEED platinum buildings (Hyatt Place, UC Conference Center, Graduate School of Management, UCD Winery and Brewery near Hyatt Place); jump in 2 to 3 vans at hotel for a quick tour of West Village, a sustainable neighborhood on the campus edge.
• 10 AM-arrive at meeting room—The Garrison Room-- at the MU/Student Union at the heart of the campus.
• 10:15-11:30 AM-Climate Change Panel Discussion: Al Herson moderating panel with Michelle Selmon from DWR to provide overview of the need for adaptation planning, Curtis Alling to survey more specifically what local California governments are doing to address the issue, and Judy Corbett from the local Government commission will discuss specific Climate Action Plans.
• 11:30-12:30-Legislative Update from Sacramento:APA lobbyist Sande George has been invited to address CPR on the latest legislative proposals and activities in Sacramento.
